PROGRAMMING

Our Primary Focus

Providing programming and training to under-served populations in WesternNew York. We create leaders in the Green Industry and Agriculture by engaging individuals, students and families in their own neighborhoods to develop healthy and sustainable programs so they can live healthy successful lives.

OUR PROGRAMS

FVRx was developed five years ago by our Executive Director in partnership with the Community Health Center of Buffalo. Patients are provided with prescriptions for fruits and vegetables to bolster their health and waylay common health disparities such as Hypertension, Obesity, Heart Disease and Diabetes. Medical Interns are also trained in Food as Medicine for their patients. Recently added facilities include Niagara Street Pediatrics and CHCB’s clinics in Niagara County serving over 20,000

In this program we work with Holistic Wellness Coach Patti Green. Patti’s love of fresh, seasonal ingredients led her to create the Farm to Fork Urban Celebration for children and their families. Participants are given tours of our raised-bed farm and greenhouse to demonstrate how food is grown, cared for, and harvested.

A one-year program in conjunction with the Highmark Blue Fund and Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, this program provides information and research to physicians for use in Food as Medicine programs to reduce health disparities in patients and clinicians.

Supportive Services

Making a Difference & FVRx

From food give-aways to working within the health community developing nutrition-based solutions for those with devastating diseases, we have the potential to make a real and positive change in the community.

Our most popular program is our Fruit & Veggie Prescription Program (FVRx). In this endeavor we work alongside the Community Health Centers of Buffalo (CHCB) and Niagara Street Pediatrics (NSP) with the 5-year-old Fruit & Veggies Prescription Program (FVRx). This program has expanded and now provides a continually growing 75,000+ individuals with fresh fruit and vegetables while being monitored for improvement by the physicians and staff of CHCB and NSP.

When we open the proposed Holistic Wellness & Agricultural Education Center along with our new Greenhouse Farm there will be much more to enjoy to feed both body and soul.

Community Development

From body to soul

With the planned Holistic Wellness & Agricultural Education Center, we are ever more invested in an innovative approach that empowers our community and delivers the support they need, when they need it.

From Yoga to nutritional cooking classes and on-site wellness checks to legal services to combat homelessness, and full-scale Agricultural Education classes, the Center will be a mainstay in the community,

Farmers Markets

Oasis in the desert

Food deserts/food apartheid is substantial on Buffalo’s East Side. Defined as areas without grocery stores, farmers markets, or other fresh food providers within a mile radius, food deserts contribute to the health issues that are abundant on Buffalo’s East Side.

We provide accessibility to fresh fruits and vegetables in our most notorious food deserts at low-cost.
