Fall 2026

THE NEWSLETTER OF BUFFALO GO GREEN

A Message from Allison

As we wrap up another market season here in Western New York, my reflections begin to intensify!
Who did we serve? How did we show up for our community? And, most importantly, what can we do to deepen our impact and better respond to our community’s needs in 2027?
It was a beautiful and productive growing season for Buffalo Go Green (BGG)! We experimented with and cultivated an exciting variety of new crops and herbs, many of which were big hits with our market customers and commercial partners.

A HUGE shout-out to our growers: Rickey, Billy, Jordan, and Crystal!
You are absolute rock stars!

Your dedication, hard work, and willingness to try new things continue to push us forward. We couldn’t do this without you!

Some of this season’s standout crops included:

  • Pumpkins (the kind you cook and eat!)
  • Green Shiso
  • Red Hot Hollands
  • Rajah S1 Cayenne Peppers
  • Orange Habanero Peppers
  • Thai Chili Peppers
  • Jimmy Nardello Peppers

Every growing season brings new lessons, new opportunities, and new ways to connect agriculture, food access, and community wellness. We’re proud of what we’ve grown, the people we’ve served, and the relationships we continue to build across WNY.

So, what’s next for Buffalo Go Green? 👀
We’re growing, evolving, and preparing for what’s ahead. Trust me, you’ll want to stay tuned! 🌱💚

Exploring the Business Case to Build, Sustain and Scale Private Insurer and Employer-Funded Produce Prescriptions: A Food as Medicine Financial Modelling Pilot

This Food As Medicine project will engage one of NY’s largest private insurers & largest healthcare providers to develop a business case, financial model, and product to inform ongoing, privately-funded Produce Prescriptions for food insecure plan members w/ diet-related conditions.

The pilot improves awareness, accessibility and provision of nutrition services to lower income people who might not otherwise identify as people who are eligible or people for whom food access services are priorities. (ALICE population)

The intervention will provide DIRECT access, affordability and culturally appropriate food/nutrition education for food insecure, ALICE population, and people at risk or experiencing diet-related health conditions WHILE ALSO building a model for a long-term, equity-focused solution.

ABOUT CONTAINER GARDENING

Container gardening is growing plants, like herbs, vegetables and flowers, in pots or planters rather than directly into the ground!  This type of gardening can be great for people who may not have access to in-ground growing spaces.  It can be great for people in apartments and also great for college students as well!

Construction & Campus Development Update on Manhattan Avenue

Phase 1: Commercial Kitchen

Our Commercial Kitchen — the heart of future meal production, nutrition programming, and workforce development — is moving steadily toward completion.

Infrastructure & Utilities

All major utilities are now fully installed, including:

  • New electric lines
  • New water lines
  • New gas lines

This foundational work ensures the kitchen will operate safely, efficiently, and at the capacity needed to serve our community.

Interior & Exterior Design

  • The interior design is finalized, setting the stage for a modern, functional, and welcoming culinary space.
  • The exterior design — including fresh paint, new awnings, building lettering, and updated lighting — is planned and ready for installation.

This building will soon become a hub for food production, education, and community nourishment!

Phase 2: Community Building Fundraising

As construction advances, we’re also preparing for the next major milestone: Building 3 — The Community Building: A Place Where Community Grows

This space will serve as the campus’s gathering point, offering room for:

  • Classes and workshops
  • Community events
  • Youth programming
  • Wellness education
  • Collaborative initiatives

In a world that moves faster every day, finding a space to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself isn’t just a luxury — it’s essential! Right now, it exists as a blueprint and a dream. But if you stand on the site, you can almost feel what it will become.

Imagine. . .
•  A grandmother learning how to cook healthy meals for her family
•  A teenager discovering the joy of growing food in our hydroponic farm.
•  A parent attending a wellness workshop that changes their health.
•  Neighbors gathering for events that remind them they’re not alone.
•  This campus will hold all of that — and more.

It will be a space where people feel seen, supported, and connected. A space where wellness isn’t a privilege, but a shared community experience. A place where hope feels possible. This campus represents more than a physical space. It’s a commitment to creating a community where healing, growth, and transformation are accessible to everyone.

We are actively fundraising to bring this essential building to life. Support for Phase 2 directly fuels our mission to create a space where connection, learning, and healing can flourish!

Medicaid 1115 Waiver:

What It Means for Our Community

Approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2024, the “Medicaid Redesign Project” under the Medicaid 1115 waiver enables states the opportunity to test new, innovative approaches within Medicaid — especially those that address the health‑related social needs (HRSN) that impact a person’s overall well‑being. These needs include housing and utility support, food insecurity, transportation, education, employment, and personal safety.
